How to use every practice, even the boring one?

How many training sessions you just waited for them to finish?

 

If you are a professional player of any sport, it usually means that you have practices ten times a week for two hours . Multiplied by ten months, or 42 weeks and we get a figure of 840 hours of training per year, or if you want to sound more fascinating 50400 minutes per year!

If you are a semi-professional or amateur player you train 250 hours per year, or 15,000 minutes.

Do you remember the times, when you used to do exercises automatically, without any thinking?

I’m sure it already have happened to you .

There are coaches who sometimes fail to give the players specific instructions for practice and then the players are confused and not sure what should they pay attention to. Then players often have the feeling that they are supernumerary or better to say “assistant of assistant of director” in the coach’s film.

How to use this “empty” time in training, when you feel like you are there only to practice other players and not yourself..

The individual’s sports coach gives specific tasks and objectives to each individual for each training session, while in team sports coach is forced to decide his own priorities and there is no time to be fully devoted to each player. Then players becomes bored in practice.

It is very important to give yourself a goal for every training session. When the coach determine the exercise – you set yourself a goal.

This could be “to make two good defense” or” twice score in the upper right corner of the goal” (if you play football, handball, water polo), or “ long spike into a corner of zone 5” or maybe you do “good step forward with left foot” (volleyball) or “dunk with your left hand” ( basketball).

Even the Worse exercise during training could be the Best one, cause every exercise is also an opportunity to practice your technique and performance elements in order to correct your little mistakes.

Give yourself a task within every exercise in the practice, respect your trainer idea and keep the target within the exercise.

Be creative.

What would be best thing to practice the next training session – for You? Write that down.

You know yourself best and you know in what you are “good at” and in what you need to improove.

Work on your weaker elements in game whether it is a technique or tactics . Develop your skills. Make yourself better, day by day.

 

If you’ve ever played games on a computer, you surely remember that there is always a goal for every level, that must be achieved in order to move to the next level in the game.

There is always a primary and secondary target !

That secondary target is a task that you give to yourself in every exercise and lots of times it is even more usefull to you for your development as player.

Just think how many minutes of those 50 000 or 15 000 (which we calculated in the beginning of the text) are spent, with you doing automatically , with no goals, your training sessions.

Change it today, set yourself a task and use maximally all the time in training session .

Give yourself a task within the practice, respect your coach’s “primary” task and keep track of your “secondary” task within the exercise.

Be creative.

What is it that you will practice the next training session? Write that down.

You know yourself best and you know what you “go” and what is not.

Work on the weaker elements whether it is a technique or tactics in your sport. Develop your skills. Your perfection day by day.

Just secondary target is a task that you yourself charting the exercise and once you on be much more use to your player development coach, but the primary goal of the exercise.

Change it today, set yourself the task and use all the time of practice in a best way for You.

A few months ago I’ve heard this story, which I really liked.

 

During the lunch break on a big construction site, two workers were eating what they brought from home.

The first worker, on looking into his box, said gratefully:

“Great ! I’m really hungry. Ham sandwich, some beer and a lovely cake.” The second man next to him looked at him, opened his lunch box and said, “Oh no, this smelly tuna sandwich again, this is the third time this week .I am sick of tuna sandwiches..»

“Come on, cheer up, if you are so sick of tuna sandwich, why don’t you just ask your wife to make you something else?” asked the first.

“I don’t have a wife, I make my own sandwiches” ……..
